Contractures after Stroke: Incidence and prognostic factors

Aims and Significance

The aims of this study are to provide the first rigorous investigation into the incidence of contractures in a representative stroke cohort, and to identify prognostic risk factors in predicting 3 joint contractures (elbow, wrist and ankle) in the stroke population.

Methods

This is a cohort prognostic study carried out in stroke patients admitted to St George Hospital, Kogarah in Sydney.

Current Status

This study is currently awaiting Ethics approval and hoping to commence recruitment by November 2008.

Funding Agencies

The Neurology Department of St George Hospital provides the funds for the cost of a research assistant for a year.
