We are currently seeking an energetic and experienced candidate for our Head of Research & Development, The George Institute India. The George Institute has been conducting research and related activities in India since 2002, with a separate wholly owned legal entity established in Hyderabad in 2007. The George Institute India’s mission mirrors that of the global organization, namely the discovery and implementation of solutions to chronic and disabling health problems through research, policy development and capacity building.  

Reporting to the Executive Director, India you will be responsible for managing the day to day research and development activities of the organisation, contributing to organisational strategic planning, providing research and people leadership, including post-graduate teaching and supervision, managing large-scale research proposals and projects, establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with relevant research networks, budget management and resourcing requirements, preparation of journal publications and reports. You will have a flair for operational effectiveness while remaining passionate and active in the academic and research sectors.

To succeed in this role you will have a PhD or equivalent experience in a health related discipline, and:

• Substantial experience in clinical, population health and/or health services research
• Excellent people management experience within a research institute, university or related organisation
• Proven experience in managing large projects from start up to completion
• Demonstrated success in preparing applications and procuring grant funding
• Flexibility to drive to achieve outcomes in a changing environment  
• Strong financial management and problem solving skills
• Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills
• Excellent English oral and written communication skills
• Availability and willingness to travel
